Exploring the Virtues of Surah Al-Ikhlas: A Dawn Lecture at Ar-Rahman Mosque, Sei Beringin

On Sunday morning,starbpknews.id. September 14, 2025, the atmosphere at Ar-Rahman Mosque in Sei Beringin, Tembilahan, was filled with devotion and tranquility. After completing the congregational Fajr prayer, the worshippers remained seated, eager to continue the morning with a session of spiritual reflection. That day’s lecture was delivered by the respected preacher, Ustaz Safrizal, S.Ag, who spoke on a profound yet simple theme: “The Virtues of Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas.”

Ustaz Safrizal began his sermon by reminding the congregation of the unique position of Surah Al-Ikhlas within the Qur’an. Though it consists of only four short verses, its message carries deep theological weight, affirming the absolute Oneness of Allah (SWT) and rejecting all forms of polytheism. “This short chapter encapsulates the essence of tawheed—pure monotheism,” he explained.

Citing the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the ustaz noted that reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas once is considered equal in value to reading one-third of the Qur’an. “This does not mean it replaces the Qur’an in its entirety,” he clarified, “but it highlights how monumental the message of tawheed is within this short surah.”

He also emphasized its role as a spiritual shield. The Prophet (pbuh) taught his companions to recite it alongside Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas—collectively known as Al-Mu‘awwidhat—as a form of seeking protection from harm, both seen and unseen. According to Ustaz Safrizal, consistent recitation of these verses with sincerity can bring tranquility to the heart, nurture gratitude, and strengthen a believer’s reliance on Allah.

The congregation listened attentively, many nodding in agreement as the words resonated with their personal experiences of faith. The ustaz stressed that Surah Al-Ikhlas is not just to be recited but to be internalized. “One who understands and embodies its meaning will be safeguarded from arrogance,” he said, “because such a person knows that only Allah is the Eternal, the Absolute, and the One to whom all creatures turn.”

Practical advice was also given to the audience. Ustaz Safrizal encouraged them to make Surah Al-Ikhlas a regular part of daily practice—before sleep, after prayers, or whenever seeking refuge. “This simple act,” he noted, “is not small in the sight of Allah. It is a treasure of good deeds that will weigh heavily on the scales in the Hereafter.” He further reminded parents of the importance of teaching this surah to their children from an early age so that the foundation of faith is instilled in their hearts.

The lecture concluded with a heartfelt reminder: “At its core, Surah Al-Ikhlas teaches us sincerity—being sincere in worship, in our deeds, and in entrusting our lives to Allah.”

Afterward, Ustaz Safrizal led the congregation in a supplicatory prayer, asking Allah to grant sincerity in their hearts, acceptance of their worship, steadfastness in faith, and a blessed ending upon the Qur’an and iman. The unified “Ameen” of the congregation filled the mosque, creating an atmosphere of serenity and spiritual renewal.

For the worshippers of Ar-Rahman Mosque, that morning was more than a routine gathering. It became a moment of reflection and reinforcement of faith. Through the virtues of Surah Al-Ikhlas, they were reminded that the essence of Islam lies in affirming the Oneness of Allah and living every aspect of life with sincerity and devotion.
